The area of a right triangle is given by the formula:
area = base*height/2
For example, a triangle with base=5 and height=8 would have an area of 5*8/2 = 20. As another example, a $0.50 tax that reduces the quantity of a good demanded by 100 units (from 225 to 125 in the diagram below) would have a deadweight loss triangle with area 100*0.50/2 = $25.
